Description

Monroe rear shock absorbers for the Honda Accord (both right and left sides) are specially designed for the replacement market to address wear in the suspension and other components that typically occurs after covering thousands of kilometers.

Specifically, the Monroe OESpectrum Pair of Rear Struts, Part #: 72563 for the 2008-2012 Honda Accord, function as hydraulic devices akin to oil pumps. Each strut features a piston attached to the piston rod, operating within a pressure tube filled with hydraulic fluid. During the vehicle’s suspension movement, the hydraulic fluid is directed through small holes (orifices) within the piston. These orifices regulate the flow of fluid, slowing down the piston and thereby moderating the movement of the spring and suspension.

The resistance provided by these shock absorbers depends on the speed of the suspension’s movement and the size and number of orifices in the piston. All modern shock absorbers are designed to be velocity-sensitive hydraulic damping devices, meaning they increase resistance as the suspension moves faster. This adaptive feature allows shock absorbers to effectively respond to varying road conditions, reducing bounce, roll, sway, brake dive, and acceleration squat for improved vehicle stability.

Shock absorbers operate on the principle of fluid displacement during both the compression and extension cycles. Typically, they provide more resistance during the extension cycle, which controls the movement of the vehicle’s heavier sprung weight, compared to the compression cycle that manages the motion of the lighter unsprung weight.
