Each strut features a piston attached to the piston rod, operating within a pressure tube filled with hydraulic fluid. During the vehicle’s suspension movement, the hydraulic fluid is directed through small holes (orifices) within the piston. These orifices regulate the flow of fluid, slowing down the piston and thereby moderating the movement of the spring and suspension.

The resistance provided by these shock absorbers depends on the speed of the suspension’s movement and the size and number of orifices in the piston.
